An important part of growing your SWE club is recruiting members. This may prove to be more difficult if your campus does not reopen in the fall, or if social events are not allowed. Recruiting at the beginning of the new semester or quarter may be difficult; the LCC has put together a list of ideas for promoting your club and recruiting members during the upcoming school year.
- Get in contact with the group or organization at your school who organizes the club fair and see if they have any plans of hosting a virtual club fair.
- Is there an engineering 101 seminar? Contact the professor about introducing your club during one of their classes.
- Hold reoccurring virtual meetings so that your club members can still gather and interact with each other. The topic of these meetings can range from playing games like a virtual escape room, to talking about time management skills, or having a group yoga class.
- Create small on-campus gatherings:
- If small gatherings are still possible, see if you can host small groups in person. For example: split up into groups of 10 and have one person from the leadership team with each group.
- If small gatherings are still possible, see if you can host small groups in person. For example: split up into groups of 10 and have one person from the leadership team with each group.
- Advertise your club meetings online through the university. Is there a website for your university that acts like a bulletin board?
- Does the Dean’s office have an email list for all the engineers at your university? See if you would be possible to send information about your club through that group. Email a welcome letter to women in the freshmen engineering class – use it to introduce your club, invite them to a virtual meeting, etc.
- Reach out to your LCC coach, and utilize SWE HQ and society committees, to help answer any specific questions on reaching out or recruiting new members.
