SWE members may be wondering what their next SWE career step is. Below is a list of my top 5 reasons I joined the Leadership Coaching Committee (LCC):
Continue Being Involved in SWE
While there are many different ways to do this, when I read the LCC description it really resonated with me. For me, it seemed like a good fit to transition into a professional SWE member after college. Now with our cohort classes of new members, we have diverse cohorts. Lots of retirees, new grads, etc!
Meet New People
If you love to meet new people like me, this committee may be something you are interested in. As a coach you are assigned sections that you will be helping throughout the fiscal year. There are a lot of sections that you will have an opportunity to connect with. As a coach I assisted with an Affiliate becoming and Section. This was a rewarding experience, providing the members with the resources and information they needed to be successful and helping them fill out their application, I was able to be there every step of the way. Getting the notification that they were approved and being able to celebrate with the section is a feeling I will never forget.
Professional Development
As an LCC Coach you will have lots of professional development opportunities available. When you go through new coach training you are assigned a mentor, as you work with sections you will work on communication and networking skills, and you will improve organizational skills as you keep track of all sections you are assigned and track to make sure they are in good standing through the year.
Mentoring
As a new coach you are paired up with an experienced member. I was provided the opportunity to mentor 3 new coaches and assist with new coach training. It has been a rewarding experience to answer questions and be a resource to new coaches. Being able to support new coaches as they learnand grow is an experience like no other.
Fun
SWE in general is a lot of fun. I have found amazing people through my time on the LCC. Being able to attend conferences, training, and socials have allowed me to connect with the members personally and we always have such a great time. This committee is full of laughs and smiles.
