Position - LCC Chair & Baton Rouge Section Awards Chair
What did you do in this position?- Lead a group of exceptional leadership coaches to support sections and affiliates to be the best they can be.
How did you find out about this position?- When preparing for FY20, I reached out to a trusted SWE mentor for advice. After a few conversations about the type of role I wanted, my interests, my long term goals, and the available positions, she recommended that I apply for the LCC Chair-Elect position. Having been a leadership coach previously in my SWE career, I was familiar with the committee and excited to join the team again. Having someone who knows the kind of work you have done and what you want to do in the future is extremely helpful when making these decisions.
What is the application process like?- Applications for SWE chair/coordinator-elects is typically opened in February of March. Then, the current leadersship and BOD members may contact you for an interview or reach out via email to get more information. After all candidates are reviewed and candidates are selected, the current leadership will contact you in May, June, or July about the decision. Since all of the chair/coordinator-elect candidates are reviewed as a whole by the Board of Directors, the announcement could be sent anytime between May and July, so I recommend being prepared and patient.
What is your advice for finding your next "SWE Career Move"? - Find a SWE mentor! Then, talk to them about your SWE career path and make a plan.

Name - Kristina Ellis
Favorite Position - Tulsa Professional Section President
What you did - I helped lead the Tulsa Northeastern Oklahoma Section - we created a 3 year strategic and tactical plan and it was so cool to see what our section accomplished. We continued an outreach mini-grant program, held great professional development and outreach events in the community, and held a WE Local the year after my presidency tenure. This section had great leaders and I loved being their president to support their endeavors.
How did you find out about this position - I moved to Tulsa after college and got involved right away. It was a no brainer - I had access to all of these great female engineer leaders and wanted to learn as much as I could from them! After getting other professional section leadership experience, I wanted to learn even more about SWE and support our SWE community in Tulsa. I self-nominated through our nom com and was elected as Section President!

What did you do in this position?

Our committee exists to support section vitality so I help to support our leaders and coaches to do just that.
How did you find out about this position?

I joined the CLCC in 2013 after graduation wanting to meet more leaders within SWE and it was the best decision I’ve made! I applied to be an LCC focus lead in 2018 to start up the program to train our awesome coaches and wanted to continue to lead this committee even more.

Find your passion! I love SWE because of the great leadership skills I have gained but this is what I do for fun so make sure you’re working on something that fills your cup! If you aren’t sure, network, meet other SWE leaders to learn about other opportunities.
